Global growth looks set to continue this year, led by recoveries in the US, Japan and Europe; though admittedly growth in the euro-zone is likely to be a little more subdued compared to its US and Japanese counterparts.

Further, monetary conditions remain ‘easy’, i.e. global interest rates are still very low by historical standards, and we continue to see money moving away from low-yielding bonds and cash in favour of equities.

Market Update December 2013

Global share markets posted further gains in December after investors reacted well to the US Federal Reserve’s decision to begin reducing its extraordinary monetary stimulus.

The Australian share market was also higher while the Australian dollar extended its recent decline against its US counterpart.

Meanwhile, the Australian share market rose for a fourth consecutive month, commodity prices weakened and the Australian dollar continued its advance against its US counterpart.
